Most people recognize Robert Dye as the highly-awarded Chief Economist of Comerica Bank. In that role, Robert has been recognized by his peers for the accuracy and vision of his economic forecasts. Yet for more than 35 years, Robert has also been a professional artist, exhibiting his work in galleries throughout the U.S. In fact, Robert’s background includes serving as a university and college art instructor.

In preparation for his large-scale canvases, Robert paints en plein air. The term refers to painting executed out-of-doors, rather than in a studio. Learn the basics of plein air painting directly from Robert with a newly-created video and time for live Q&A!

Robert A. Dye, Ph.D., is Senior Vice President and Chief Economist at Comerica Bank. He leads the Comerica Economics Department and provides commentary and research on the U.S. economy and the economies of Michigan, Texas, California, Arizona and Florida to Comerica, its clients and to national and regional media outlets. Robert is also professional artist who paints evocative large scale landscapes and abstract paintings in rich and light-saturated oil colors. His paintings straddle the line between landscape and abstract imagery, evoking a Turneresque sense of light and space combined with energetic brush strokes and a sensually complex paint surface.
