For a nation that is focused on tomorrow, the past has suddenly captured our attention. What is the difference between “what happened” and “history”? Between history and “mythistory”? Why is the ability to understand the difference vital to the future of the United States?

Dr. Dennis M. Kratz is Senior Associate Provost and Founding Director of the Center for Asian Studies at The University of Texas at Dallas. Previously, he served as Dean of the School of Arts and Humanities for 22 years. His research emphasizes the continuation and transformation of the western “heroic” tradition from classical antiquity through medieval and modern literature.
